Best Countries to Travel to this Winter
With the holiday season quickly approaching, many of us are trying to decide how we'll escape the impending bitter cold of our North American winters. I am all for snow, hot chocolate, and any winter sport until about January when I'm just done with winter. To cope with thoughts of shovelling...
Yes, you really can travel Iceland on a budget!
Don't let your cash pour out of your hands!
Justin and I recently booked a very last minute trip to Iceland (13 days prep time, to be precise). While we were quickly able to check off the most important things like passports up to date, appropriate gear for the climate, and visa requirements...
I think this was my favourite hot pool in Iceland. Pretty well in the middle of nowhere, near a used-to-be hotel, was this little gem. To get to the hot pool, you drive through Búðardalur and continue up Road 60 until you reach Sælingsdalsvegur. It is just after side road 590 on the left hand...
Bruarfoss is a waterfall near the Golden Circle highlights of Gullfoss and Geysir. It is lesser-known and a requires a bit of light hiking to get there, which detracts the tour busses. What I loved about this Iceland waterfall is that there are no man made viewing decks, no signs, just you and...
The Ammonite - Coal Creek Road
So many great hikes off coal creek road, but this one started out as a journey to the number 9 mine... We were sadly on the wrong path but we ended up at the ammonite so I'll still call it a win :).
Any time spent with family in Nature should be cherished.
This hike was really interesting. There are so many paths you can take and they're really well marked with colour coded patches on the trees. We spent about 3 hours walking around the park and could've easily spent the day. I'm really looking forward to returning in the spring!

Washington State: Full of Surprises
To mark the Fourth of July, I thought it was time I shared a piece about our trip through Northwestern Washington.
Right around Memorial Day, Justin and I headed down to the upper pacific northwest region of the USA: Olympic National Park. We were celebrating my birthday, the...
Very easy walk anyone can do. Family friendly, too. If you want, you can duck into the trees to find an I paved trail and get tourist-free views of the lake. Absolutely beautiful colour. Doesn't even seem real. 🙂
Very short, easy, walk made of stone stairs. Absolutely gorgeous lake. Sunrise is a perfect time to visit.
Easy walk with amazing reward at the end. Beautiful 😻
Not very tracked out at all, lots of brush on the path and crossing a couple creeks and an avalanche is necessary. That being said it's pretty short and definitely doable. Wouldn't recommend for kids because the creek current is quite strong.
Can access mayo lake from basin of Ailsa later in the...
Canada 150: Experience Canada, the Canadian Way!
On July 1st every year, Canadians gather 'round their local parks, lakes, and backyards to celebrate Canada Day with fireworks, friends, and family. This year, things are a little different; it's been 150 years since the Canadian Confederation in 1867 and to appreciate this momentous occasion,...
